FISAT, the Federal Institute of Science and Technology in Angamaly, Kerala, is 25 years old. It is marking the anniversary with a series of events themed "Engineering the Next 25" and a new campus block, the Silver Jubilee Building.
The college was founded in 2002 by the Federal Bank Officers' Association, led at the time by its general secretary P V Matthew, and is run by the association's educational society. It now has about 4,000 students and more than 400 staff, with courses ranging from BTech and MTech to MCA, MBA and PhD programmes.
Chief Minister V D Satheesan is due to open the celebrations and the new building. Higher Education Minister Roji M John is the chief guest, and the keynote speakers are Benny Behanan MP, Dr Ciza Thomas, Vice Chancellor of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, and Federal Bank MD and CEO K V S Manian. FISAT chairman P R Shimith presides.
FISAT recently became an autonomous institution, which lets it design its own courses and run its own examinations, and says it hopes to progress to deemed-university status.
According to the institute, it has put more than ₹1 crore into a Fab Lab and an IDEA Lab, funded with AICTE support and contributions from the management and alumni. The labs run around the clock and are open to students, farmers and the public. It says the Fab Lab has won a state award for entrepreneurship development and has helped produce patents. Seven international labs, set up with the National Skill Development Corporation at a cost of ₹7 crore, prepare students for certifications from companies such as Apple, Microsoft, IBM and Schneider Electric.
FISAT reports an average placement package of ₹6 lakh. Its credentials include NBA accreditation, an A+ grade from NAAC, UGC 2(f) status and ISO 21001:2018 certification. All figures above are the institution's own claims.
