Researchers have developed a way to detect deepfakes using light. In their tests, it correctly flagged 99.86% of manipulated videos and correctly cleared 95.72% of genuine ones, while checking 15 videos at the same time.

As synthetic media gets cheaper to make, quick and dependable detection matters more to platforms, newsrooms and election authorities, including in India.
