Apple beats expectations but warns memory costs will squeeze holiday-quarter margins

In his first results as CEO, John Ternus had to explain how pricier memory chips will dent profit.

Apple's latest quarter came in ahead of forecasts on the back of strong iPhone sales, in the first results released under new CEO John Ternus. The company nevertheless guided to lower margins for the holiday quarter, citing higher memory-chip costs.

Memory prices have climbed across the industry, a squeeze widely attributed to demand from AI data centres. Apple also said it cannot yet say when more of its new foldable iPhones will be in stock after they sold out.

For Indian buyers, rising component costs are worth watching: smartphone makers often respond with higher prices or fewer discounts.
